Nachrichten: Barbara Seidl was born...in Pisek, Bohemia . When her brother was about 2 and she was about five, her mother died in childbirth along with the baby. There were also some other members of the family, one older sister married to a Stauber and some of her children came to Wisconsin, and a sister, Anna, which we know about. After her mother died her father married another woman named Pankratz. Her father died about age 45. In her teens she walked 50 miles to Wein where her godmother lived and worked as a housekeeper for a priest. When Barbara was about 18, after the death of her father, she and her sister had to decide who would run the farm. She received a proposal from a man named Bauer who agreed to run the farm and they became engaged. When he wanted to bring along a certain dairymaid, she figured "one in the house and one in the barn" and broke the engagement. Then she, her sister Anna and her step-mother decided to come to the United States. On their way the step-mother died and was buried at sea. The two girls then landed at New Orleans. Eventually they reached Two Creeks, Wisconsin (then Nero, now a ghost town.) There she met Johann Grall and they were married in about seven weeks. Her sister, Anna, married Louis Raznkin three weeks later. Her brother, Stephen Seidl, who was about 15 when they left Austria, had a job herding cattle there, got married and came over later with relatives. He lived at Francisw Creek, Wisconsin. After Johann and Barbara were married they spent sometime in Cato and later moved to a farm near Whitelaw Wisconsin."
