After digging in National Archives I finally was able to locate theGerman (Hanover) hometown for our ORTMANN ancestors. The town isWagenfeld, which is south of Bremen. I have mailed to you a copy of the ship's passenger arrival listshowing Carl W. and Louisa ORTMANN and their youngest son Theodoreemigrating from Bremen on the Ship Everhard arrange in New Orleans,LA. on 26 Dec 18.46. The record is somewhat hard to read, but it indicates that Carl was a"Joiner" (carpenter), that they were from "Wagenfeld," that their U.S.destination was "St. Senate" (Cincinnati), and that they had "twochests and bed" in their possession. Their ages were listed as: Carl W. 45 Louisa 39 Theod. 2 The Lutheran Church records for Wagenfeld are intact going all the wayback to the late-1600's. I forwarded to you an e-mail from aprofessional researcher in Bremen who is willing to do some research.If your interested, we may want to split his fee among the three of usso that he can trace back the ORTMANN family further.
