Madog used the civil war taking place in England toencroachupontheeastern border, but his main task was to resist theambitionofhisnorthern neighbor, Owain Gwynedd. in 1150 he was defeatedinabattlenear Coleshill. He was assisted in 1157 by Henry II butdiedin1160.The last ruler of an undivided Powys, Madog was greatlypraisedbypoetsand bards.
