Ed Pageler
The Wells Creek ball team played ball with the St. Marys team on their diamond Sunday because of our diamond being too wet. We lost the game by a score of 2 to 13. The game was lost mostly on account of bad errors made by the players. The team plays the Sand Hill sluggers next Sunday here.
The married men ball team treated the single men and their girl friends last Wednesday evening at the Ed Pageler home. The evening was spent in playing cards and games. some of the boys that didn't bring their girls were supplied with a lady dummy, which caused much excitement that evening and also the next day. As some folks were driving by they stopped at Ed Pageler's and reported they saw a woman lying along side of the road. After a little investigation was made they found out it was one of the dummy girls friends the boys had thrown away the night before. (1938)

WHO was born January 5, 1896; in Kaw Township, Wabaunsee county, KS; in the family's log Cabin in the Wells Creek community; and who died May 13, 1984, at Westmoreland, KS. Ed was 88 years old. He served with the 313th Ammunition Train, Company B; 88th clover Leaf Division; in the Center Sector, of the Alasce Region near the Argonne Forect area of France in 1918. As a part of the Division Tradition, he carried a cloverleaf with him all ohis life! In Paris, France, 1918, Ed became a Charter member of the American Legion. He was also a Charter Member of VFW Post 1258, Wamego; and the Wamego Veteran's of WWI. He was a local member of Harold Johnson Post 172, of the American Legion. Let Us Pray; Gracious God; You are always more prepared to listen to us, than we are to pray! We come to you now, at this time and place, knowing that You know our needs before we ask. And so, we pray your Strength, and comfort for this family, and these friends, in their time of loss and grief. Be with them now and always as they Live in Your Peace and Grow in Your Grace. For we pray in Christ's Name. Amen. The Reading: Ephesians 6:13-17 SONG Meditation "Veteran For Life" Ed Pageler had hoped to live to be 88years old. He wanted to reach that goal because he had served inthe 88th Division. And he reached his goal! We all set goals in life...We all have things that we want to accomplish in the time we have for living....On several occasions, Ed told me of how he felt priviledged to serve in WWI in France...And he also told me how he was grateful that he was able to come back home to tell about it. He had served in one of the heaviest areas of the War in France. And his experiences of that time stayed with him...And his experiences empelled him to be part of the several organizations that could serve other veterans after that war, and the others that followed....That was one of the things he wanted to do with his life. But these weren't the only things he wanted to do in life....He also wanted to raise his family...And he enjoyed fishing...and playing cards with friends...and Sports. .. And he liked to have fun with people. And for 88 years, he enjoyed doing the things he wanted to accomplish in his life. Ed Pageler wasn't just a WWI Veteran, he was like all of us....He was a Veteran of LIFE! Life is full of work and struggle and sometimes, the owrk and struggle can be fun! some of life's battles, if you will call for guns, and Ammunition Trains....But most of life's battles call fo other tools... The Apostle Paul knew about the rest of life's struggles...And he knew about the tools...And he knew that the same God that gives us the Gift of Life also provides us with the hardward to live our lives, and to set our goals for living! The list of the Whole Armor of god is impressive: TRUTH...RIGHTEOUSNESS...PEACE...FATITH...SALVATION...TRUST. Ed Pageler leaves behind a legacy for us of a man who set goals for himself, and the accomplished them...The Apostle Paul leaves us a formula for living as a Veteran of Life...As a Veteran of the Day by Day Struggles...and the Day by Day Joys that are a part of lving God's Gift of Life! When you remember Ed Pageler, take time to ask yourself what you want to achieve...And let those thoughts remind you of Paul's Formula for living as a Veteran of Life. And when you use the tools God gies us for living, remember God's Presence with you as you go your way in peace...God Bless You in your life Journeys...Amen/.
