He was born at 2 p.m. on the 9th of December 1746 in the village Haudamm near Osterholz-Scharmbeck, in Lower Saxony in Germany. His parents were Hinrich and Wulbrig Grotheer. (C1)

Childhood:
The early part of his life was spent in Haudamm. His father was probably a cottager there. Later the family moved to the village Neu St. Jürgen in the nearby Worpswede parish. His father probably bought a farm there. (C1, C2)
Work:
Dierk's brother inherited the farm of Dierk's father.
Dierk Grother was a cottager until about 1777. Then, when he was 31 years old, he obtained a farm in Neu St. Jürgen (German: Halbbauer). (C2)

Marriage:
He married the single Anna Tietjen on the 30th of November 1770 in the Lutheran church in Worpswede. (C2)

Death:
He died in the morning of the 27th of May 1820 in Neu St. Jürgen. He was 75 years old. He was buried in the cemetery in Worpswede three days later. (C2)
