Giles Brent, Capt. George Brent and Robert Brent,Gent. [1946], and The Descendants of Hugh Brent [1936]. The former issupplemented by Dr. George Mason Graham Stafford in his work, GeneralGeorge Mason Graham [1947]." Mr. King goes on to note "It is and errorin The Descendants of Hugh Brent, page 59, where it is stated thatAnne Brent (1737-1802) married Hugh Atwell. She married on November14, 1762 Thomas Atwell, Gentleman, (1737-1788) of Prince WilliamCounty, Virginia and both of their last wills and Testaments remain ofrecord in Prince William County. "Genealogies of Virginia Families From the Virginia Magazine ofHistory & Biography, Vol 1, Adams-Chiles", Genealogical Publishers,Co, Baltimore,1981. This Richard was left a ward of Edward (aka Giles) Reed, Lord ofTusburie & Witten, at the death of his grandfather (he fatherpre-deceased) and then married the eldest daughter of Reed. Callls herEleanor Reed. I think both Brent families are related several generations back inEngland-just have not proven it-though the given name Hugh runsthrough the Catholic line. It could be that the Hugh Brent of Staffordwas from a branch that converted to the Anglican church beforeimmigrating and therefore was long estranged from the Catholic branch. *Father: Richard * BRENT b: 1551 in Yorksoke, England *Mother: Mary * HUGGERFORD b: ABT 1555 *Marriage 1 Elizabeth * REED b: ABT 1578 in of Tusburie, England **Married: 1594 in Admington, England *Children **1. There are several references to Admington and Lark Stoke. Both arepresently located within the district called Shipston-on-Stour. Forthat reason, I have both towns designated the same. If the connection to this family could ever be proven (through provingthe connection between William and George Calvert), this would be ourfamily's one claim to royalty, apparently (as usual, a distant claim). Sheriff of Gloucester County in 1614. He inherited the manor ofAdmington in Gloucester County, England in 1618 and conveyed it toLork Brook, his wife's cousin. Lord of Lark Stoke and Admington in Gloucestershire. Was for manyyears Sherriff of County Gloucester. Of Stoke Larke, Gloucestershire, England. Had over 13 Children.
