John Troutt was born in Casner Twp. Jefferson Co. Ill, 1 Jan. 1849, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Wood Troutt. John married Nancy Ann Easton 24 Oct 1878 at the home of her Grandmother, and step-Grandfather Nancy W. and Wm. Morris. John was 27 and Nancy Ann was 18. John and Nancy lived in a log cabin in Carrigan Twp. Marion Co. Their 13 children were born on this land, all in the log cabin except Sherman who was born in the New House. Surely it was not an easy life but a happy one, as the stories told by the children were many. All the children grew to become adults except Orville L. who died at the age of 3y, 6m, 25d due to measles, and Luella who died at the age of 12y, 8m, 9d due to Typhoid Fever. Relza was also sick with the fever at the same time,

when he was told one morning that Luella had died in the night. He insisted on going to the cemetery , his parents said he shouldn't, but they finally gave in and he was wrapped in blankets and put in the wagon. She was taken to Ebinezer Cem. to be laid beside her little brother Orville.

Virgil was taken from them when he was killed in a hunting accident in Meridian, Idaho in 1920. He was brought back to his home and buried in the Sandoval, Cem. He was visiting his cousins in Idaho.
