[Margaretha SPRUEGEL.ftw] Belva was tall and favored the Darr's. In the words of her daughter Ruby Belva (McNall) Sauer: "My motherwasthe most wonderful mother anyone could ever ask for. She loved to cook, clean, sew, paint, played the guitar, sing and whistle. You should have heardherwhistle the song "listen to the Mockingbird". She was a lover of nature andhaswritten many poems about a bird or some creature as she watched them thrughthewindow. She had a composition book nearly full of poems she had written.(books whereabouts ?). Amoung the poems was a poem she wrote about mybrother Carlton "The prince of pointed patches" He had received a pulloversweater for Christmas, the trend at that time was for leather patches on theelbows,so my brother got some leather somewhere andasked her if she thought shecouldsew them on the elbows. She did and also wrote the poem about it. She did lots of paper work writing for the church, ladies aid societyorfor any thing else she was asked to do. She was a wonderfulcook andthateveryone says I inherited. She loved to bake and she loved to makemashedpotatoes. When she put them on the table she had scallops made witha table knife, wideat the nbottom, narrow at the top and on the top a big hunk of butter thatwouldbe drizzling down the creases. She always worked very hard and put herheartinto everything she did. She would sit in the chair and do hand sewing. She would make all ofuskids something for Christmas and birthdays. The last that she made for mewasa log cabin quilt for my 18th birthday and I still have it every stitchwasdone by hand. It is still in wonderful shape and a beautiful peice of art.Shewas taken real sick and was sent to the T.B. Sanitarium in Howell,Michigan. She was there for two years and nothing more could be done for her. Herheartwas so bad as well as her lungs, one was working against theother.Regardless of all her sickness she always had asmile on her face, she was sopatient, kind, and full of love and understanding. She was a wonderful mother."
