Excerpts from the Writing and Sacred Experiences Of David Glenn Boyer   Faith Through Administration: Rotterdam, Holland, 1950 (Written 27 April, 1976)   Partial records and other missionary experiences are recorded in separate notes and a brief missionary journal.   My purpose in these few pages is to share with you a few cherished experiences which confirmed and strengthened my faith in the power of the priesthood.   In the front of my Dutch Bible is a list of all residences of my mission to the Netherlands from July 1948 to March 195 1.   The address was Gordelweg 55A, Rotterdam (North). I had been called as District President of the 1000-mcmbcr Rotterdam North District with local brethern as councilors. I was in my 23rd year. Elder Ford Poulson, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, age 22-years was the Branch President. My I st. Councilor was Br. Leonard Plaizier. He and his wife had been members of the church for 27-years. In looking back Iam amazed at the tolerance and respect expressed to those young Americans who had been called to administer the affairs of the Rotterdam Branch and District. I have since had time to reflect on theseexperiences and realize the respect was in the assurance and testimony they had of living prophets who direct His Church on earth and, "If the Lord wanted those young inexperienced men to direct the Church in Rotterdam, that was just fine with them".   As the Church has expanded into a world wide church the wisdom of growing by service and strengthening individual   Wards and Stakes on a local bases exemplifies the inspiration of the Lord through His prophets.   However, in 1950, Br and Sr. Plaizier wanted to and had saved all their lives to immigrate to the United States (to Zion) and to receive their temple blessings.   Having survived World War 11 and 4 1/2-years of German occupation of Holland, having seen the results of privation, degradation, and near starvation, the chance had now come for them to receive theirUS immigration permits.   As you can imagine, many people both young and old wanted to come to America, the land of the free, the protector of democracy, following World War Il. Immigration visas were therefore precious itemsand long lists of applicants awaited at the US Consulate.   The day finally arrived--the visas would be granted upon completion of their medical examinations.   The results were heart breaking. Sr. Plaizier had an x-ray which indicated tuberculosis and blood tests indicating sugar diabetes. She was over weight and had a slight heart condition.   No visa would be forthcoming. Br. Plaizier came to me heart sick. Not only would he not be able to see the fulfillment of their dreams, their hopes and prayers, but now had to seriously consider the loss of his wife in the relatively near future.   Br. Plaizier and I agreed to fast and to pray. Elder Kenneth Bemont of Salt Lake City was my companion. Along with Elder Poulson we fasted for three days. In the meantime I had contacted the US Consulate and requested and was granted a re-examination appointment for Sr. Plavder.   On the morning of the third day we administered to Sr. Plaizier.   As I sealed the anointing, I knew I had been granted the permission of the Lord to bless this good sister with health. In the name of Jesus Christ and by the power of the Priesthood, I blessed her with health, with long life, with the strength to undertake the chores of packing and assured her she would have the privilege of being sealed to her husband for time and for all eternity while she yet lived.   In private Elder Poulson later asked me if I knew what I had promised her. (And many years later shared with me his thoughts and concerns at the time the promises were made).   The subsequent x-rays and blood tests were all negative. The Consulate doctors gave an explanation of the possibility of mixed x-ray and blood test results due to the heavy work load of the Consulatestaff. But then, they hadn't had the experience and faith we had, nor the knowledge of the power of God in today's world.   What a thrill it was to accompany this good couple with many of their friends as they boarded the SS Rotterdam to sail for New York.   But the greatest thrill and emotional high for me was to come a couple of years later as Geraldine and I were going through the Salt Lake Temple. There to serendipitously meet Br. and Sr. Leonard Plaizier in "The House Of the Lord".   D. Glenn Boyer 1478 South 1500 East Bountiful, UT 84010   SOURCE: Temple Ord.
