Hilbert – Jake Brockman, 72, died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at Boeslager’s hotel where he has made his home for the last three years.
He was born Jan. 7, 1865 at Rockville, Manitowoc County. In earlier years he followed the trade of shoemaker. He was married Sept. 23, 1885 to Miss Tena Utke at Reedsville and they came to Hilbert to live. In 1898 when the village was incorporated, Mr. Brockman was elected trustee and held that office for 10 years and later served as ??? He was also a member of the first fire department.
Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Brockman, one daughter, Miss Elsie of Appleton and two sons preceded him in death. Edward lived at Wausau and William enlisted during the World war in 1918 when he served on the Mexican border. He was killed in battle at Marne, France, July 15, 1918 and is buried in France.
The William Brockman American Legion and Auxiliary and the Woman’s Relief corps of Hilbert are named in honor of this Hilbert boy.
Three grandchildren, Wausau also survive Mr. Brockman. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. In 1920 the family moved to Appleton. Mrs. Brockman died in July 1924 and Edward in 1937 at Wausau.
Funeral services will be held at the Eldridge Funeral Home and at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the family lot at Riverside cemetery, Appleton.
