He may have been born in Kansas according to the 1910 Illinois census. He was a farmer. On the 1930 census he was married to Audrey. She had been married previously and had children named John, Audrey and Lauren Ray, all with the last name of Donnelly. Her mother, Julia A. Snodgrass, also lived with them. They lived at 218 Lawrence Ave. in Springfield, Illinois. Davitt was a loader in a mill, and both of his parents were born in Illinois. Obituary: Dorritt A. Maxfield of 401 W. Adams St., died at 6:40 a.m. yesterday at Memorial hospital which he entered Aug. 7. He was 71 years old. Mr. Maxwell is survived by his wife, Louise; one daughter, Mrs. Henry Chatlaen, Greenville, and one sister, Mrs. Frank Scott, St. Petersburg, Fla. Remains were taken to the Vancil funeral home where services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow. Dr. A. Ray G__mmon officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Adams St., died at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 1956, in Memorial hospital, age 71. Survived by wife, Louise, one daughter, Mrs. Henry Chatlaen, Greenville, and one sister, Mrs. Frank Short, St. Petersburg, Fla. Remains to Vancil funeral mansion where friends may call any hour, day or night, after 4 p.m. Wednesday, and where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Dr. A. Ray Grummon officiating. Burial in Oak Hill cemetery. Carlock lodge 904, A. F. & A. M., conducting graveside services. (Published Illinois State Journal, September 12, 1956, page 22)
