Liberty Janes married Clarinda Fuller [actually Clarissa Fuller; see NEHG Register Vol. 148, p. 266, the Joseph Fuller Bible Record] of Shoreham, Vt. They moved from there to Berkshire, in 1800, when the country was new, and the most hardy pioneers were required to subdue the virgin forests. He was a man of great industry and perseverance, and went through many hardships to open the way for social comforts and suitable prosperity in old age. For himself and children he prepared a good, quiet home. He died there in 1851, with the respect of all who knew him. (The Janes Family, pp. 151-152) In the 1830 census, Liberty Janes is found in Berkshire, Vermont. In the household are one male 10-15, one male 50-60 (Liberty), one female 5-10 (perhaps Amanda), one female 15-20, one female 20-30 (perhaps Sophronia Marie), and one female 50-60 (Clarissa). Clarissa was born in 1784, so if the female between 5-10 years old was Amanda, born 1821, Clarissa would have been almost 41 at the time of her birth. In the 1840 census of Berkshire, Vermont, Liberty Janes is found with one male 5-10, one male 20-30, one male 30-40, one male 60-70 (Liberty), one female 5-10, one female 10-15, one female 20-30, one female 30-40, and one female 50-60 (presumably Clarissa, although she is now enumerated in a different decade).
