Notes for this person

Erasmus SMITH - b. about 1561; d. 1616. Of Somerby, and said to be the third son of John HERRICE alias SMITH in the "Smith alias Heriz of Whitcock" pedigree in the History and Antiquities of Leicestershire volume of the Victoria Counties Histories. Erasmus married first Miss BYDD, but no evidence has been found stating that they had any children. He married second about 1576. Had (by which wife - notes re Margaret Cecil seem to contradict above) * Henry - d. before his father. Son of Erasmus SMITH and his first wife. Henry was a Puritan minister in England. It is possible that this Henry SMITH was the one who was admitted to Sidney Sussex College as a pensioner in 1617. Identifying separate Henry SMITHs as the attendees of Sidney Sussex and Magdalene would seem more reasonable that attempting to identify them as one man. * Roger - Named in his father's will, he sold the Withcock (or Withcote) property to his uncle Ambrose SMITH
