"HOSMER GENEALOGY Descendants of James Hosmer who Emigrated to America in 1635 and settled in Concord, Massachusetts" By George Leonard Hosmer Page 6 "ANCESTRY OF JAMES HOSMER. The most remote Hosmer ancestor of whom we have actual records is James Hosmer (*) of Ticehurst, of Sussex, England... His wife was Agnes___. James died in 1605; the administration was to his widow Agnes, in 1605, as shown by the probate records at Lewes, of Sussex, Adm. Book B-3, page 53. His burial is not recorded at Ticehurst. His widow was buried at Ticehurst, Sep. 9, 1614. "James and Agnes Hosmer had three sons, all baptized at Ticehurst (Stephen, bapt. Dec. 26, 1570; Thomas, bapt. Nov. 2, 1572; James, bapt. Feb. 12, 1575/6); and two daughters (Martha no record, and Anne, bapt. at Ticehurst in Oct. 1578). The old church at Ticehurst (mostly forteenth century construction) in which the records are kept... "Stephen Hosmer, bapt. at Ticehurst, Dec. 26, 1570, settled in the neighboring village of Hawkhurst after his marriage. he had nine children baptized at Hawkhurst: Thomas, bapt. Jan. 2, 1602/3; Stephen, bapt. Sep. 16, 1604; James (1), bapt. Dec. 8, 1605; William, bapt. jan. 10, 1607/8; Mary, bapt. Dec. 10, 1609; Anne, bapt. Sep. 29, 1611; John, bapt. Apr. 30, 1615; John, bapt. Apr. 26, 1618; and Stephen, bapt. May 13, 1621. "The eldest son, Thomas, and the third son, James (1), were the founders of the Hosmer families in America. "(*) The name Hosmer (Osmer) is very ancient in the Counties of Sussex and Kent, and there are many records of this name. It is considered probable that the family could be traced back to 1300 if an exhaustive search were made."
