Notes for this person
Military records indicate his father served during the American Revolution. Fortunatus (Jr) served during the War of 1812 in the 19th Regimentof the Virginia Militia. Prior to the establishment of peace on May 17th, 1815 he was appointed the rank of Lieutenant. Married Eliza Royallon November 13, 1817. On the 1820 US Census, he was living in Lynchburgwith his wife, one male child under the age of 10, 5 slaves and 1 freeperson of color. On the 1830 Census, he and his wife were still livingin Lynchburg with their three children and 15 other people of color, free and slaves.
