Sonstiges: Sister Elaine (Mary Dacian) Basch died Thursday, September 1, 2011, at Notre Dame of Elm Grove in Elm Grove, Wis. She was 95 and a former elementary school teacher and librarian.

Sonstiges: Sister Elaine was born in Green Bay, Wis. She entered the congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1932 from St. Willibrord Parish in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and professed first vows in 1936. Sister earned a Bachelor of Science degree in history, education and religion in 1959 from St. Norbert College, De Pere, Wisconsin.

Sonstiges: Sister Elaine worked as an educator for nearly 50 years. She began her teaching career at St. Leo, Milwaukee, 1933-34. She also taught at St. John the Baptist, Marshfield, Wis., 1936-39; Holy Assumption, West Allis, Wis., 1940-49; St. Joseph Orphanage, Green Bay, Wis., 1949-53; St. John the Baptist, Marshfield, Wis., 1953-59; St. Leo, Milwaukee, 1959-61; St. Joseph Orphanage, Green Bay, Wis., 1961-63; St. Peter, Beaver Dam, Wis., 1963-65; Holy Angels, Gary, Ind., 1965-67; SS. Peter and Paul, Milwaukee, Wis., 1967-69; and St. Francis Xavier, Green Bay, Wis., 1969-70. She served as a school librarian at St. Mary, Menasha, Wis., 1970-73; St. Peter, Beaver Dam, Wis., 1973-75; St. Francis Xavier, De Pere, Wis., 1975-76; and St. Lawrence Seminary, Mount Calvary, Wis., 1980-88. She retired in 1988 and continued ministering through her prayers and presence.

Sonstiges: Sister Elaine is survived by her brother Francis Basche, nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and the SSND Community. Funeral services will be celebrated on September 8, beginning with visitation at 9 a.m. and a wake service at 10:30 a.m. which will be followed by a Mass of Resurrection at the Holy Family Chapel at Notre Dame of Elm Grove, 13105 Watertown Plank Road. Memorial contributions may be made to the School Sisters of Notre Dame Retirement Fund, c/o SSND Mission Advancement Office, 13105 Watertown Plank Road, Elm Grove, WI 53122-2291.
