Dr. William O. Alexander enlisted as a 1st Lt., 3rd Reg., Missouri State Guards, as an assistant surgeon. He was wounded in the right leg. William is buried 1/2 mile south of Stanley, Oklahoma, in Pushmataha County. Inscribed on his tombstone is "His many virtues form the noblest monument to his memory".

Mr. [James H.] Mason was married, August 31, 1899, to Susie O. Alexander, a daughter of Dr. William O. and Mary E. Crumley) Alexander, of Pulaski, county, Missouri, a highly respected family there. She received a good education in the common schools. She has four brothers and two sisters.

Dr. William Alexander built the second hospital in Pulaski County and it was located in Richland.

Granny Dorothy always said that he lived on the last farm before you cross the Gasconade River on Hwy 7. She said that the silo standing on the left side of the road was part of his original farm and that he often made visits to his patients via the river.
