BIOGRAPHY: **Taken from "Our Family" compiled in 1981 by Carroll BAIRD (neeRUMPEL)** Donald Leonard Rumpel the only son of Henry - was born in Vancouver, BC in 1932. Spending his pre school years in V
ancouver, Kelowna and Portland Oregon. Grade school was started in Prince George BC, where he lived with his family until the death of his father in 1938. Then followed a period of brief stays in Sask
atchewan, British Columbia and Alberta until the re-marriage of his mother to August Kraemer in 1939. The family then settled in Medicine Hat, Alberta for the war years, where Don helped raise rabbits
for the Suffield Research Centre and worked in the market gardens for pocket money. The last move with the family was to Ochre River, Manitoba, where he completed school. In 1949, Don left home and t
ravelled to Edmonton, working in various lines of work until 1951 when he attended C.T.I. in Edmonton for one year. In 1955, a career started with the R.C.M.P. where service was seen in several areas
of Western Canada. The first two years with the force in Saskatchewan, transferring to the Artic in 1957. The next eight years were served in small settlements in the Nort West Territories, persuing t
he policing activities or going on dog patrols during the winter, canoe and boat patrols in the summer. During this period of time he met his wife, Yvette, who was running the nursing station at Fort
Norman, NWT. They where married February 25, 1961 by Dan and Grace Priest, Penticostal Missionaries in the area. Eldest son, Donald Jr., was born March 1962 while living in Aklavik, NWTand second son,
Gregory, was born August 1963 while at Arctic Red River,NWT. Don moved with the family to Alberta in 1964 where they are living todate. Edmonton, High Prairie, Fort McMurray, Red Deer and Wetaskiwin
all have been called home, although the longest stay, nine years, was in Fort McMurray has left the most impression on the family. At present, Don is still with the R.C.M.P., serving as Staff Sargent
incharge of policing the City of Wetaskiwin, Alberta. **Don passed away January 2001 in British Columbia, Canada**
