Helen Catherine Warwick, 87, a long-time residentof Caldwell, died peacefully in her home on Saturday, the 20th of July.
Helen was born in New York City on November 24, 1925. She was the daughter of HelenCatherine Whitty Monahan and Joseph Leo Monahan. Helen attended the Catholic school Lady of Mount Carmel in New York City. She married Robert William Warwick in Flushing, New York, on April 14, 1943. He was, at that time, a sailor in the US Navy during World War II. They moved to Long Beach, California, where they lived until their move to Idaho in 1955.
Helen was employed in many interesting jobs during her lifetime. She served as a gas station attendant and a mail carrier during World War II. Helen also worked in a drugstore owned by a Mafia boss, a dry cleaning company, as a waitress, as a bookkeeper at the Caldwell Times,and, finally, as a bookkeeper for Allied Seed for 24 years.
In her youngeryears, Helen enjoyed bowling, golfing, and participating in the Newcomers’ Club.Helen built many wonderful friendships through the years. She played bridge weekly with her friends until shortly before her death. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 55 years. She treasured these friendships greatlyand often spoke fondly of them.
Helen’s greatest enjoyment in life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a proud Irishwoman and fiercely loyal to her clan. Helen was always selfless and generous and was much beloved. Even the family dogs loved her above all and would escape to run to “Grandma’s” house where they knew a treat would be waiting. Although her presence in our family will be missed, she will always dwell in our hearts andour memories.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert William Warwick, and her two brothers, William Howard and John McLaughlin. She is survivedby her son, Micheal Robert Warwick (Caldwell), her daughter Colleen Allen (Kent, WA), sister Patricia McLaughlin (Northport, NY), grandsons Duane Allen, Joshua, David, and Joseph Warwick, and 7 great grandchildren.
A memorial mass willbe celebrated Wednesday, July 31, 2013, 10:30AM at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Caldwell. Private family graveside service will be held at Canyon Hill Cemetery.
