Sibley, Osceola Tribune July 25, 1957 - Funeral Is Held Wednesday For Mrs. J. Shcroder Mrs. J Schroder came to Osceola County 73 years ago at of 9. Funeral services were held here Wednesday , at 2pm in the First Methodist Church for Mrs John Schroder of rural Sibley. Mrs Schroder, who passed away at her home Saturday night, had attained the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 14 day s. Conducting the services were Rev, J.S. Hutchings, pastor of the First Methodist Church at Melvin, and Rev Bruce D Jones, pastor of the First Methodist Church at Sibley. Burial was in the Holman Township Cemetery. Joanne Elizabeth, daughter of John B and Jessie Gontjes, was born Sept 6, 1874 at Mount Carroll, Carroll County, Ill. At the age of nine years, she came to Osceola County with her parents who settled southeast of Sibley in Holman Township. In her early years, she became a member of the Evangelical Chruch of Allendoarf, Iowa. She was unite d in marriage to John Schroder, April 22, 1896, after which she and her husband made their home on a farm five miles northeast of Melvin, Iowa. Then children were born to this union, nine of w hom survive. They obverved their 60th wedding anniversary April 22, 1956. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Milford Morfitt of Sanborn; Mrs Albert Linneman of Ocheyedan; Mrs. Russe ll Sturges of Ocheyedan; and Mrs Joe Agena of Sibley and five sons, Henry of Melvin; Leonard of Harris; Vernon of Cedar Rapids; and Delbert and Robert of Sibley. Other survivors include 39 gr andchildren and 29 great grandchildren. her husband and a daughter proceeded her in death and she was the last survior of the orginial Gontjes family.
