Markgronigen Birth records LDS# 1056750751 Emigration records: LDS# 550796 Family left May 10, 1805 husband and wife and five children ************* GCRA NEWSLETTER Volume 17, Number 2 P 51-58 1804-1805 Emigrants to Russia from Markgroeningen Amt, Wue. Contributed by Thomas A. Stangl [Source: FHL #550,796] #2 - Konrad Kaul. Nachtwachter (night watchman), from Markgroningen, 35 years old, with wife, 3 sons, 2 daughters, to Podolia, "approved for departure, without delay" (traveling with Unrath family). The note on these first two records is partially translatable as - "hoping for a better life with fewer wants in Podolia" - their reason for emigrating. Georg Konrad Kaul (*30.7.1769 Markgr., son of Johann Andreas Kaul from Asperg and Rosina Barbara Seeger from Markgr.;+before 181201k), married in Gerlingen on 18.5.1791 to Elisabetha Maisch (1816 GRL:58, widow; *14.12.1766 Gerlingen, daughter of Ignatius Maisch and Justine Hoschele of Gerlingen; +after 1818 Glk). After having their first child in Gerlingen, the Kaul family returned to Markgroningen where Georg Konrad had been bom. On all of his children's birth records he is listed as a Weingartner. When his last known child was born in October 1804, he was listed as the Hoehmeister (grand master) of the guild. Apparently his fortunes had been greatly reduced to being a night watchman by 1805 - sufficient incentive to emigrate to South Russia for free land and a new life. The Kaul children going to Russia were: Johann Georg, Johann Gottlieb (later known as Christian), Rosine Friederike, Georg Konrad Jr, and Elisabetha.
