Alma Ida Anna Brockmann was born August 26, 1917, to Henry and Bertha (Ebel) Brockmann on a farm in Silver Lake Township, south of Fairmont, Minn. She was the oldest of six children, and attended country school District #85. At about age 19, she moved with the family to a farm northwest of Sherburn. She was married to Lavern Waldee on January 23, 1942, and they had three children. Early in their marriage they farmed near Dunnell, but most of their farming years they lived north of Sherburn. They retired in 1973 and moved to their home in Sherburn, where Lavern died on November 17, 1985, and Alma continued to live there until two weeks before her death, struggling in the last few years with congestive heart failure. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sherburn, and was active in Senior Lutherans as long as she was able. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, baking, and yard work. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and enjoyed attending the school functions of her grandkids. As she became more homebound, she especially enjoyed watching the birds at the feeders outside her kitchen window. And she loved watching TV game shows and correctly guessed most of the answers on Wheel of Fortune at age 91!
Alma is survived by her daughter, Delores (Dee) Kokan of Sherburn; and son, Lee Waldee (Fran) of Welcome; a sister, Helen Jensen of Pipestone, Minn.; sister-in-law, Leva Christensen of Estherville, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Sara (Nate) Klima of Sherburn, Lance (Tiffanie) Waldee of rural Sherburn, David (Julie) Kokan of Marietta, Georgia, Daniel (Amanda) Kokan of Marietta, Georgia, Timothy (Stephanie) Kokan of Huntsville, Alabama, Eric Waldee of Homer, Nebraska, Leya Lorenzen of Sioux City, Iowa; 16 great-grandchildren and number 17 expected in June; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Alma was preceded in death by an infant sister; her husband; their firstborn infant son; her parents; her son-in-law, Razi Kokan; two brothers, Herman and Harold Brockmann; sister, Esther Nolte; and other relatives and friends.
