The 1850 census shows her to be 32 years of age.
Nothing is know of her parents. She is said to have come from a family with a "von" in their name.
The exact place of origin in Germany is not known. She immigrated to the United States with her husband Henry Sundermann around 1842-1845. Two of her children were born in Cincinnati, OH. Reputedly, her first daughter was born and died at sea while she was on her way to the United States.
In 1846 Cincinnati, OH directory, Henry Sundermann is shown living at Baymiller and Freeman streets.
They mnoved to Southern Illinois to a farm after 1852. France Hackmann Allen researched land records in Metropolis from 1851 through 1854, but could find no record. She believes the farm is in another county.
Whether Wilhemina was living in or just visiting St Louis at the time of her death in January, 1877 is not known. It just so happens that her daughter would give birth to Frank Henry Hackmann in Februrary, 1877, and it may be that Wilhelmina came to be on hand at that time and sickened and died.
Per Frances Hackmann Allen, Wilhelmina is said to have remarked that she came from a better family background than her husband. She is also said to have remarked that Henry Sundermann was the second meanest man she ever knew, and that second husband, Louis Brueggeman (it is presumed that her second husband's first name was Louis) was the meanest.
Acording to information given by Alvin Rausch (her grandson by daughter Caroline's second marrige) in the 1970's, the family originally came from Schleswigh-Holstein. Schleswig-Holstein was under Danish possession until 1864.
