__________________________
Diedrich left Germany on April 26, 1873 on the steamship Vandalia as confirmed in his obituary and arrived at Castle Garden, NY on 13 May 1873 according to ship manifest records at this site. He was listed on the ship manifest as "Catha Reese" (female). This may have been a disguise to avoid being drafted by Kaiser Wilhelm into the Prusian Army at the time. Note that his sister's name is Catherine and she appears to have arrived exactly one year later.
___________________________
Diedrich went by the name "Little" Diedrich Reese so as to differentiate him from his cousin, "Big" Diedrich Reese living in the same area.
