Notizen zu dieser Person

Ludwig or Lewis was an adopted son of Adam, per Adam Keith's will of 1783. Lewis' death is listed in the IGI Database as 1818 PA>Bedford>Liberty but I cannot verify this Lewis to be that man. It is rather more likely he died in York Co. ca 1816, the year before his son Adam ceased appearing on York Co. PA tax lists and apparently left the area. Lewis arrived in York Co. PA from Caernarvon Co. PA about 1774 when he shortly thereafter appears on Tax Lists of that county. He likely either moved with his step-brother Balthasar or followed closely after him. Lewis and Catherine are mentioned in Michael Henry's, Catherine's father, will July 14, 1801. 1778 Tax List, York Co. PA, Yorktown, Ludwick Keeth [Lewis] likely owned land in both York City or Yorktown, and Chanceford Township, a distance of about 13 miles. 1778 Tax List, York Co. PA, Chanceford Township, Loudwick Keeth 1778 Militia Muster Roles, 6th Battalion York Co. militia, 8th class Lodwick Keith Note: The militia "class" rating indicated the sequence in which the militia members would be called to active war duty. The classes normally were assigned from 1 to 8. The higher the class, the less likely to be called to active duty. Men from age 18 to 53, not an invalid, were eligible to be enlisted in the militia. Therefore, Ludwig/Lewis with an assigned class of 8 indicated he was likely older; in 1778 he would have been 31 years of age. 1779 Tax List, York Co. PA, Chanceford Township, Ludwig Keith 1780 Tax List, York Co. PA, Windsor Township, Ludwig Kith Note: Chanceford and Windsor Townships in York Co. were adjacent to one another. 1781 Tax List, York Co. PA, Windsor Township, Lodowig Keith 1782 Tax List, York Co. PA, Windsor Township, Lodowick Keith 1783 Tax List York Co. PA, Chanceford Township, Lodwig Keeth with 6 in household 1790 Ludwick Keeth [indexed Freeth] PA>York>Chanceford 2 2 3 Note: It is possible that old step-brother Balthasar was living with Lewis in 1790. 1810 Lewis Keeth PA>York>Chanceford 00001 00101 Church Records - St. Luke's Lutheran and Reformed Congregations, York Co. PA 1773-1835 1783 Ludwig and Catherina [Henry] Gich were sponsors at the baptism of Salome Graul, daughter of Henry and Catherina [Gich, step-brother Balthasar's daughter] Graul, June 22, 1783. 1785 Ludwig and Catherina [Henry] Gich attended the baptism of their daughter Maria Catherina October 10, 1785. Catherina was born July 3, 1784. 1789 Ludwig and Catherina [Henry] Gich attended the baptism of their daughter Anna Maria, July 10th, 1789. Maria was born January 18, 1789. 1805 Ludwig Gig was a sponsor at the baptism of Elizabeth Barkholder August 17, 1805, father was Abraham Barkholder [mother Maria Henry Isenhower, the sister of Lewis' wife Catherine]. Elizabeth was born June 15, 1805. Note: Notice that while tax list and militia muster rolls information used surname spelling variants of Keith, the church records still used surname variants of the germanic Gieg or Gich.
