[Josh Aslinger.FTW] All of the childrens' dates listed with Tom and Doni was given to me byPhyllis. She had gotten them from Aunt Ruby in a letter in 1992. Tom's mother, according to Aunt Ruby, apparently lost some land to backtaxes. Mama Dukes also said that Sompter died in Florida and when she died Tompacked up all of the kids and what furniture and supplies would fit in acovered wagon and moved to Mississippi. Before leaving however, for someunknown reason, he set a large bonfire and burned what would not fit onthe wagon. He apparently left a great deal of land that had been in theMason family for many years. It later sold for back taxes and now a verylarge oil refinery is supposed to own the land. Tom was born in either Flomaton, Alabama or Century Florida, according toAunt Ruby. NOTE: All references we have, the marriage license and the tombstonesshow grandpa Tom's initials to be T. W. ****************************************************************************************Notes from interview with Mildred Lambeth, FlomatonAlabama Dec. 14, 1996. Mrs. Lambeth runs a fruit stand in Flomaton called Lambeth's Curb Market, this is where the interview took place. Those present for the interviewwas myself, Virgie Dumas, granddaughter of Ora Lambeth, sister of MamaDukes'. Mrs. Lambeth's husband James Lambeth is the son of Ernest Lambeth, whowas the son of Steve Lambeth, our grandfather Tom's twin brother. Mrs.Lambeth claims to have been present when her father- in- law Ernest wasvery ill and told the whole family a secret that his father had toldhim. The secret was that the name of Lambeth should not have been theirname that Blackshears should have been. Apparently, Tom's and Steve'smother never married their father. The Blackshear was supposed to havebeen the son of the principal of the Blackshear school in Frisco City inMonroe County. It is unknown if all of the children belonged to theBlackshear man or if they all had separate fathers. All that is knownfor fact is that the children were all living with their grandfather andgrandmother Lambeth in the 1880 Alabama census. Steve Lambeth was a blacksmith according to Mildred Lambeth andsupposedly owned a lot of land that he was supposed to have lost overwomen.
