This marriage ended in divorce. 2nd Marriage: On September 2, 1938 to Dr. Talbert Dalton Lancaster of Laurel, MS who died on June 13, 1939. Dr. Lancaster would never remarry. She practiced with her 2nd husband until his death. From the Evening Independent---September 1, 1977: Dr. Viola Lancaster, a retired chiropractor, Red Cross Swimming Instructor and civic leader, died Wednesday, August 31, 1977. She was 89. Dr. Lancaster opened a chiropractic office on Third Avenue S in St. Petersburg, FL in 1941. She formerly had been Secretary of the Associated Chiropractors of Pennsylvania and practiced as a chiropractor for more than 14 years in Lancaster, Pa. A 50-year member of the American Red Cross, she was widely known as a swimming instructor in the gulf beach area. In 1963, at age 75, she was still able to out swim many young people, and had at the time been teaching swimming for 38 years. She received a congratulatory letter from then-President Gerald R. Ford (also an avid swimmer) in 1974, after writing an article about a 50-mile "Swim to Stay Fit" program. She had instituted the Red Cross program in this area and encouraged participation in it. She was honored by a group from St. Petersburg Beach, including, a former mayor and members of the police and fire departments, for her involvement with them in that program. She was president of the Belle Vista Beach Community Association for many years and was a member of the Gulf Beach Chapter 241, Order of the Eastern Star. She was elected president of the Long Key Auxiliary American Legion Post 305 in 1968 and later that year was honored for her recruiting efforts. She was a member of the Pass-a-Grille Community Church. She is survived by a son, A.W. Lockwood of St. Petersburg Beach. Baynard-Thompson Beach Memorial Chapel will handle arrangements for private services. Donations can be made to the American Red Cross.
