Emma Lucille (Thompson) Fossmeyer, 92, of 2500 Wild Grove Drive, Austin, Texas, died Aug. 1, 2003, at Regency Village Care Center in Austin, following a long illness. A former Vincennes resident, she was born in Knox County, on Nov. 20, 1910. She was the eldest daughter of Clarence B. and Elizabeth L. (Henderson) Thompson.

A graduate of Fritchton High School, Vincennes University and Oakland City College, she dedicated her life to the education of many first-graders st Franklin Township School No. 1 and St. John Lutheran School in Vincennes, First Good Shepherd School in Las Vegas, and North Knox Elementary, and to raising her family. After retirement, she worked as a substitute teacher for the Vincennes Community School System.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Vincennes, where she worked tirelessly in the Ladies Aide and the Missionary League. Mrs. Fossmeyer was a Girl Scout leader, and a 60-year member of a group she called "Club" (this started as a sewing group, and developed into a loose social organization.)

A member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she served as librarian in the Francis Vigo Chapter, and was a docent at the William Henry Harrison Mansion.

Emma was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Alfred E. Fossmeyer, in 1985, and by her four brothers, Howard, William, Maurice, and Samuel.

Survivors are her daughter, Margaret (& Todd) Brandon of Chapin, S.C.; two sons, David (& Nancy Muench) Fossmeyer of Austin, Frederick (& Nancy) Fossmeyer of La Mesa, Calif.; a sister, Mildred Fossmeyer of Vincennes; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family suggests that people attend in casual attire. Services will be conducted by Pastor Ron Maxwell, and violin music will be provided by Jessica Fossmeyer. Casketbearers will be her grandchildren, Chris & Scott Boyer, and Jeff & Joyce Fossmeyer. A graveside committal service will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
