'Dit zijn mijn beren'
In 1823 there was a strike near Alkmaar.
Many workers on the construction of the Noord-Hollandskanaal were in conflict with the contractor, Gerrit Huyskens.
He killed two workers with his gun, they killed him with a long pole.
Huyskens was born in Westenstede (Oldenburg).
Many workers came from Germany too.
This is a 'family tree' as a tribute to the many unknown workers on the canal.
