Notizen zu dieser Person

I have little information on Emil so far. It is thought that he may have been a brick mason in Germany and my mother remembers him to have been a short and very strong man. Emil came to America around 1905 with two of his brothers. They entered into a partnership with their youngest brother Robert, who followed them to New Hampshire shortly after. The name of the company was the Barmer Narrow Fabric Company, a textile mill that made lace and was located in (Gossville) Barnstead, NH. It is thought that Emil later operated his own mill near Suncook. It was called Profile Woven Label.

Emil and his wife appear to have separated prior to 1930, and it is unknown at this time what became of the mill, this may have been around the time of the Great Depression. In 1924, he was living in Keene, NH. In 1927, he was living in Providence, Rhode Island. It is thought that he went to Germany for a time and returned. In 1933 he was living in Pawtucket, Rhone Island. I believe he operated a German supper club in Pawtucket for a time before he went to the Elks National Home in Virginia in May of 1951. The 1930 US Census lists him as a cartaker for a lodge (Elks) in Pawtucket. 1932-1942 City Directories for Pawtucket simply list him as a foreman.

He died at the Elk's home, and was buried in the Elk's section of the municipal cemetery the record there states his occupation as a textile mill superintendent.

A record exists at Ellis Island for Emil arriving in the US from ...sdorf (most likely Ronsdorf) on 9 Jul 1907 aboard the Kroonland from Antwerp. This would approximately the time that my father came as a child. The manifest states that he was going to join his brother, Robert at Barnstead. It also indicates that his wife is still in Germany at this time.

The 1910 US Census lists Emil as the president of the ribbon factory and year of emigration to the US as 1907 and German was their current language.

The Petition for Naturalization dated 31 Jul 1912 indicates that Emil came to the US on 26 Jun 1906; arriving at New York aboard the Kroonland from Antwerp.
