Notes obtained by Robert Mielke from church records at Zion Lutheran in Schenectady indicate that August was married in 1899 at the age of 39. He is also the one that I think was a sponsor at the baptism of Ernst Koch in 1880 and Ernst Friedrich August Dettbarn in 1885.
I had difficulty with the obituary for Albert, his brother, dated 19 Oct 1959. It stated that he was survived by his brother August in Winton, Minnesota. This must have been incorrect as August died in May of 1925 in Schenectady. It should have meant to read Theodor as it was known that he was in Winton, even though Theodor died in 1953
As I have not found records of August in Schenectady after 1895 so far, they may have lived outside of the city proper. The 1895 City Directory list his occupation as mason. A Franz Dettbarn was a sponsor at the baptism of Leo Franz Harke in 1899. I have not been able to identify who this might have been. Perhaps August's middle name was Franz.

At least one of the children of this marriage (Fred William) was born in Wayne, Michigan in 1915 and was residing at that location when he applied for a Social Security Card in 1939. It would appear that this family had moved to Michigan, explaining why I have found no further records in Schenectady for them. Alternatively, they may have resided near Schenectady and the mother went home to be with her mother when the children were born as was common in those years.
