Der 1746 geborene Sohn des Kohlenbrenners Michel Renard heiratete 1777 nach Dedenbach (Brohltal/Kreis Ahrweiler). Als Schafhirte und Vater dreier Kinder starb er 1792 viel zu früh. Als auch die Mutter vier Jahre später starb, waren die unmündigen Kinder auf sich gestellt. Das älteste war gerade 14 Jahre alt.
