BIOGRAPHIE: FRANCES KOHLBECK WAS BORN IN HIRSCHAU GERMANY. SHE WAS THE CHILD OF ANNA KOHLBECK, FATHER UNKNOWN. SHE CAME TO THE USA ON SEPT 22, 1883 AT THE AGE OF FOUR WITH HER GRAND PARENTS, JOHANN KOHLBECK AND KATHERINE (BAUMANN) KOHLBECK. SHE LIVED WITH HER UNCLE JOHANN KOHLBECK AND HIS WIFE KATHERINE (FELBER) KOHLBECK. SHE LIVED WITH THEM AND THEIR LARGE FAMILY OF 12-13 CHILDREN UNTIL SHE WAS 11-13 YEARS OLD. SHE MOVED IN WITH THE BAUMANN FAMILY. IN 1900 SHE LIVED WITH THE BAUMAN FAMILY AND WORKED IN THEIR TAVERN ON NORTH CENTRAL AVENUE IN MARSHFIELD. SHE WAS LISTED AS A SERVANT IN THE 1900 CENSUS. SHE MARRIED H.C. KOENIG ON FEB 20, 1906 AT THE AGE OF 26 YEARS OLD. SHE AND H.C. REMAINED MARRIED UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 1934. SHE NEVER REMARRIED AND LIVED IN THEIR HOUSE ON MAPLE STREET IN MARSHFIELD. SHE DIED IN 1972 IN NIELSVILLE WISCONSIN AT THE CONVALECENT CENTER THERE. SHE CAME TO THE USA TO NY CITY ON SEPT 22,1883 WITH HER GRANDPARENTS JOHANN AND KATHERINE ON A SHIP CALLED THE "ELBE". PER THE MANIFEST THEY HAD TWO PIECES OF LUGGAGE WITH THEM. THIS INFORMATION WAS FURNISHED BY FR. STEINER OF UNITY WIS.. (COPY OF SHIP MANIFEST IN FILES) FRANCES'S MOTHER ANNA KOHLBECK CAME TO THE USA AT A LATER DATE AND MARRIED EMIL MEYER. THEY LIVED IN WAUSAU WISCONSIN. THEY ARE BOTH BURRIED IN WAUSAU AT THE ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CEMETARY. (SOURCE: MARATHON COUNTY WIS CEMETARY LISTING) NO.94 8 33. Frances was a very religious person. She and her son Ray said rosarry every afternoon at their house. She went to church at Sacred Heart Church in Marshfield every day. On Sunday's her Son Bob would pick her and Ray up for the 5:30 AM mass. They would sit in the fourth row on the left side of the church every Sunday. This was just in front of Mrs. Schulte. She baked on Wed and Sat. Bread on Wed and coffee cake on Sat.. Bob would pick up coffee cake on Sat. . One stop was always at Mrs. Schulte's house across the street from Thomas Super Market on South Central Ave., to drop off a coffee cake. It was always a treat to go to Grandma's house with dad to pick up the coffee cakes. We would get to eat her famous oatmeal rasin cookies that had coconut in them. We also sometimes got to go to the basement or to the attic to explore what was there. Obituary from Marshfield New Herald: 01-28 to 01-30-1972 Mrs. Koenig is Dead at age 92. Mrs. H.C. (Francis) Koenig, 92 of Marshfield, died at 10PM Friday at the Memorial Home in Neillsville, where she had been a patient the past three years. Services will be held at 11AM Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Peter J. Leketuas, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be mad in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
