Jessie Murphy's family history can be found in the work of manygenealogists. Many cousins have been actively researching this line. Weare so fortunate to have had James (Jim) Murphy working on our branch.Jim Murphy is the grandson of Jessie Dora's brother William RufusMurphy. Jim Murphy has devoted years of research to collecting ourfamily history. He has authored several books and had a Murphy familynewsletter for many years. All of the pictures that we have of Jessie'sfamily were given to me from Jim. Our thanks to Jim for pulling all ofthis together and sharing his Murphy research with us. We appreciateall the hard work.

Written to me by cousin James (Jim) Murphy. Jim stated his Mosleyinformation was obtained around 18 -20 years ago.
"Aunt Jessie, as I was told from your Turner cousins in Ingomar,
never wanted her picture made. At least they did not have a copy ofone. My
Wiggins cousins (their mother was Mattie, a sister of Jessie) describedJessie as a pretty large woman who had diabetes. She and Monroe werealways struggling. I have pictures of John Daniel Murphy (Jessie'sfather and also her mother, Lurena Bobo) and all his children, exceptJessie."

I am assuming the Turner cousins Jim is referring to are the children ofAnnie Bell Mosley (Daughter of Monroe and Jessie). Annie Bell marriedGeorge Washington Turner.

Lorene Mosley Steadman says that she can recall seeing Grandma Jessie 2times. She can remember seeing her sitting on the old porch. She saidthat Grandma Jessie enjoyed dipping snuff and she remembered her mouthwas always moving.
She also recalls being taken to Jessie's bed when she became ill andpassed away. Lorene was about 5 years old when Grandma Jessie died.

We are still looking for a picture of Jessie....

Jim also told me of a genealogist in the 1800s, Andrew Moore Passmore, who published a 2 volume genealogy research project in 1889. Thispublication is titled " Andrew Moore and his Descendants". These booksare a classic and can be found in many larger libraries. They contain awealth of information about our ancestors in the Murphy line. Afterfinding a copy, I was delighted to find our Jessie Dora Murphy and JamesMonroe Mosley actually named in the book. James Monroe was once againreferred to as J.M. Mosley. Their post office address was listed as NewRiver, Alabama. This is near the Carbon Hill area. In the book, you cantrace Jessie Dora's line all the way back to Andrew Moore. Andrew MoorePassmore ended our branch of the Murphys with J.M. and Jessie'sgeneration. Their children are not listed.
We can find our ancestors in this 1889 publication because of themarriage of the children of James S. Murphy, b Abt 1720 and AlexanderLove b 1718. These children were John Sr. Murphy and Jane Love (whichwould be our ggggg grandparents. They were married in 1776.) Jane Lovejust happened to be the grandchild of Andrew Moore, so her line wasincluded in this book.
During our visit, Jim Murphy graciously allowed me to scan some of hisold photos of the Murphy family.
Included were the parents of Jessie Dora who were John Daniel Murphy andLorena Bobo along with many of Jessie's siblings. Thanks to Jim, we alsonow have a picture of Jessie's grandmother, Martha Mayfield, wife of AmziMurphy. We are still looking for a photo of Amzi, Jessie's grandfather.
Cousin Jim Murphy is a very delightful person and I greatly appreciatethe information and the afternoon he spent showing us cemeteries andother family history.
