James Richard POWER(S) moved about 1866 to Missouri. He farmed in Pulaski County until 1900 when he moved to Ozark County and lived in the Romance area. James barely escaped death on the farm when one of his oxen attacked him and he had one leg amputated. He was wearing a wooden leg when he moved to Ozark County. Photograph on page 619. CIVIL WAR: Company E 14th Illinois Infantry. Enlisted Feb 1865. Discharged Aug 1865 Ft. Leavenworth, KS.

On February 28, 1865, James enlisted in the Union Army in Springfield, IL and was mustered with Co. E, 14th Reg Illinois Inf. He then moved to Pulaski County and later to Ozark County, Missouri, where he died in 1917. James was 5'8", had blue eyes, black hair, and a light complexion.
