Er wurde im Volksmund der "Deutsche Mann" genannt.
Der legendäre Zugführer eines österreichischen Landwehrbatallions 1897 das auf Asch marschierte und gegen die Aufständischen kämpfen sollte. Er trat am Vorabend des Ausrückens im Kasernenhof während des Appels vor seinen Battallionskommandantenen und entgegenete diesem soldatisch "Gegen meine Deutschen Brüder schieß ich nicht" und soll sich dabei sogar die Orden abgerissenhaben. Er wurde seitdem im Volksmund "der deutsche Mann" genannt.
