This document is courtesy of Susan Gregory. Descendants of Robertina Christine Brun First Generation 1. Robertina Christine Brun,(1, 2, 3, 4, 5) daughter of Unknown and Rebaekka Brun, was born on 17 Jan 1838 in Fosnes, Norway,(5, 6, 7, 8, 9) died on 14 Jul 1926 in Windom, Cottonwood County, Minnesota,(6, 9, 10) and was buried on 17 Jul 1926 in Lakeview Cemetary , Windom, Cottonwood County, Minnesota(9). The cause of her death was ruptured cerebral artery. General Notes: At the age of 42, Robertina immigrated to the United States in 1880. She came with her 4 year old son, Peter and her one year old daughter Hannah. Hannah was a widow when she arrived in the United States. Per the death certificate of Ida Peterson, Robertina's maiden name was Brunn and her husband's name was Nels Peterson. The obituary of Hannah Peterson Saxhaug states that her father's name was Olaf Peterson. Per Bette Maher Marsh, Robertina took in boarders. In the upstairs there were three small bedrooms and one large room. Bette also told me that Robertina had a sister that helped to run the boarding house. It is believed that Robertina's husband did not come to America with Robertina. Here is a census entry for 1865 that could have some possibilities. There were only 17 Robertines on the census of 1865, so that helps. Census year: 1865 Municipality: Bodin Municipality number: 1843 Name of domicile: Seidvog* Number of persons in this domicile: 7. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Name Family status Marital status Occupation Birth year Birth place Ethnicity Robertine Pedersen e Gaardbruger Selveier 1838 Namdalen Rebækka Brun Hendes Moder e %ug% Hjælper Moderen i Huset 1797 Bedstaden Ida Pedersen Robertines Datter ug 1862 Bodø Rebække Pedersen Robertines Datter ug 1860 Bodø Henriette Pedersen Robertines Datter ug 1864 Bodø Fredrik Fredriksen ug Tjenestekarl 1842 Bodø Kirsten Pedersdatter ug Tjenestepige 1820 Bodø It has them living in Bodin which I find in Nordland fylke. the similarities to what you posted are: Robertine Pedersen, widow, her mother (also a widow) living with her and helping out has the last name Brun - close to Brusen Robertine's birth year is within 2 years, common on these records. Ida Pedersen, daughter born 1862. They are living at Seidvog farm, Robertine owns it. (the last two on the census are hired hands.) They were living in Namsos at the time they left. she is a widow traveling with a son and daughter. Peter is 4 and Hannah is 1. They are on the Nordtyske (north German) shipping line, which went through Oslo and then Bremen Germany. She was a widow in 1865 on the census, and the last name was Pedersen. Now it's spelled Petersen and she's a widow but with young children. A second husband died perhaps? In 1865 she was living at Bodin parish in the area by the town of Bodø in Nordland, and in 1880 she was living in the town of Namsos, in Nord Trondelag. Perhaps her older child Ida has already emigrated, and Robertine is going to join her after the death of another husband. 1900 Census for Windom, Cottonwood County, Minnesota: Peterson, Robertina, head, born Jan 1836, age 64, widow, married for 20 years, mother of 6 children, 4 living, owns home mortgaged, born Norway, both parents born in Norway, immigrated 1880 lived in US 20 years, boarding house keeper Peterson, Ida, daughter, born Apr 1871, age 29, single, born Norway, both parents born Norway, immigrated 1878, lived in US 22 years, occupation nurse Saxhaug, John, son-in-law, born Nov 1875, age 25, married 3 years born Minnesota both parents born in Norway, occupation Farmer Saxhaug, Hannah, wife, born Feb 1878, age 22, married 3 years, mother of 2 children 2 children living, born Norway, both parents born Norway, immigrated 1878, lived in US 22 years Saxhaug, Alma, daughter, born Nov 1898 age 2, born Minnesota Saxhaug, Harold, son, born Feb 1900 age 2/12, born Minnesota Saxhaug, Louise, sister, born Aug 180, age 30, single, born Norway, both parents born in Norway, immigrated 1869, lived in US for 30 years, occupation Saleswoman-dry goods 1910 Census, Windom Village, Cottonwood County, Minnesota: Peterson, Robertina, head, age 73, widow, mother of 6 children 4 living, born Norway, both parents born in Norway, immigrated to US in 1880 Peterson, Ida, daughter, age 48, single, born Norway, both parents born Norway, immigrated 1884 1920 Census Windom, Cottonwood County, Minnesota (Ancestry.com image 36 of 43) Urness, Rose, head age 58 divorced immigrated 1880 born Norway, both parents born Norway Peterson, Robertina, Mother, age 85, widow, immigrated 1879, born Norway, both parents born Norway. According to the 1900 census Robertina Peterson was the mother of six children and four children were living at the time of the census. Robertina is listed as a widow in 1900, 1910 and 1920. The year of immigration for Robertina is listed as 1880 on the 1900 census and she was listed as living in the U.S. for 20 years. The immigration date for Ida and Hannah Peterson (daughters of Robertina) are listed as 1878. Perhaps both Ida and Hannah came over to the U.S. with their father or another relative prior to their mother arriving in the U.S? Or perhaps there is an error in the dates. Robertina was still living in 1910 as she was listed as living in her house on Miller Avenue on the 1910 Census. She is listed as living with her daughter Ida. Robertina had two boarders living with her at the time of the 1910 census. Peterson was the daughter of Olaf and Robertina Peterson, She was born February 13, 1878 in Norway. At an early age she was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Mrs. Peterson has lived in Windom her entire life with the exception of three years when she resided at Slayton, Minnesota. In 1900 she was united in marriage to John Saxhaug, who passed away in 1905. In 1916 she was united in marriage to E.M. Peterson, the marriage taking place at Windom, Minnesota. He died in 1952. Mrs. Peterson has been a resident of the Sogge Memorial Home for the past three years. She had been in quite good health until about a year ago when she began to fail. She became seriously ill several days ago and early Sunday morning, December 20, 1964, passed away. At the time of her death she was 86 years, 10 months and 7 days of age. Hannah was a loving wife and mother, a good neighbor and friend to all who knew her. She attended the Windom Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a member of the ladies aid and was a shut in of the church. Mrs. Peterson had the misfortune of losing her eyesight some years ago but throughout her illness and misfortunes enjoyed her family and many friends and always was cheerful and content with her lot in life. She leaves to mourn her passing three children, namely, Margaret, Mrs. Kermit Maher of Windom; Otto Saxhaug of Revere, Minnesota and Vernon Peterson of Bingham Lake, Minnesota. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Per Darrell Maher, Hannah was a jovial person and a good cook. Hannah lived at 809 Miller Avenue in Windom, Minnesota. This house was built by her mother and father. The land upon which the house was built was purchased from the railroad. Hannah, her mother and Monty Peterson all died in this house. Vern Peterson and his wife Rita lived in this house when they were first married. After Hannah married Monty, Monty subdivided the property and Vern and Rita bought a lot and built a prefab house on the 8th street side of the property. According to Bette, this house is still there as of April 2001. Other residents of the upstairs part of the house were Barbara Burton Maher and four of her children, namely, Jane, Susan, Brenda, and Mike. Barbara and her children lived in the house for about 6 months in 1965. The final resident of the house was Margaret Saxhaug Maher and she lived in this house the majority of her life.
