Carolous/Charles/Carl was born in Untermelsendorf, house #10, Bavaria, Germany. He was baptized in a small chapel in Dippold Thungfeld. His godfather was the Honorable Carolous Susies of Munchsambafh (about 5 miles from Untermelsendorf). The pastor was Rev. Storer. Charles came to America in October 1851 and settled in Cleveland, Ohio. Here he married Maragetha Ehrbar also of Untermelsendorf, house #5, after she and their daughter, Barbara, arrived in Cleveland, Ohio. They were married at St. John's Cathedral by Rev. N. Rupp, on January 18, 1852, witnesses were Ignatius Frey and Michael Ehrbar. Margaret was the mother of their illegitimate daughter, Barbara, who was born in Untermeldsendorf #5 before Carolous came to America. Hepetitioned for Naturalization on May 28, 1855 and obtained his Naturalization Papers on October 13, 1857 (#1111). He worked as a day laborer in Cleveland. Margaret died on May 23, 1860 and a relative of hers, Johanna and her children, moved in to care for the children of Charles while Johanna's husband (Joseph Ehrbar) was working in Michigan. In the 1857 Cleveland Directory, Carl was listed as a Lager bier living at 46 Lorain WS. After Margaret's death in 1860, he married Elizabeth Mannon August 6, 1860, they were married by the Rev. Obermueller at St. Mary's Church on Carroll Avenue. Elizabeth was born in Germany. In the 1863 & 1864 Cleveland Directory Charles was listed as a laborer with Seaborn & Hempal Lumber Company. Theyhad several children born in Cleveland before they moved to Tiffin, Ohio. There they completed their family of a total of 16 children between the 2 marriages. Charles/Carl worked as a day laborer according to the Tiffin City Directory and died at the age of 60 years and 6 months from being exposed to the elements of being found cold and drunk after a night of drinking in the city. The burial Mass was held at St. Joseph's Church with the burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery on November 4, 1886.
