Elizabeth (Lizzie) Hummer was born on September 14, 1870 in Wyandotte, Jackson Township, Ohio and was baptized on September 17, 1870 in St. Mary's Church in Kirby, Ohio. Her sponsors were Johannes Magnet and Elisabetha Goes. Fr. George Peters performed the cermony. Her birthday was always celebrated on September 26th as that was when she was led to believe that she was born. Elizabeth married Peter Ehrbar on April 26, 1892. She carried a beautiful ivory prayerbook (written in German). This prayerbook was also carried by her eldest daughter, Marie at her wedding, and by several grandaughters at their weddings. The prayerbook has been handed down to the oldest daughter of the oldest daughter. Elizabeth was the mother of 8 children. In the later years of her marriage, she separated from her husband, Peter, because of his violent temper. To supplement her income, in addition to being a housewife, she also was the cook at the Ursuline Sacred Heart Academy for girls in East Cleveland. She was a short,loving, gentle and mild mannered person. She suffered from Arterosclerosis for several years. In her later years, she spent time between the homes of her daughters, Marie, Catherine and Helen. She died at the age of 78 years from Pulmonary Adena, Heart condition and Arthritic conditions, while living at the home of her daughter, Helen Gallagher, in Mantua, Ohio. A Mass was held in St. Joseph's Church in Mantua, Ohio and burial in the Wagner Plot at Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio.
