The many Census records of Franklin Co offer some intersting factsabout the May families. Thomas (father of Susannah) is listed in the1790 as Thomas Mayo: 2 male (un 10) 1 male (26-45) 1 female (un 10)1female (16-26) no slaves He is listed in 1800 with nearly the samefamily size but now owns one slave. By 1830 he is living inChathamCo., NC: 1 Male (70-75) 1 female (60-70), Slaves 1 female(21-24), 1 female (55-100). He has applied for a Rev War pensionbounty & land in Pittsboro Chatham Co 17 June 1832 and both weregranted. Pension Nr. S 21356 N.C. and bounty land granted Gibsin Co TNThomas may have married twice a Thomas May married an Elizabeth Roperein Wake Co, NC but it has not been established that this was thesubject Thomas. In his applications Thomas makes reference to his older brotherWilliam Sr May & his father as Robert who he says died shortly afterthe Rev War. The records show Thomas May lived next door to his son inlaw Uriah Dickens & his daughter Susannah May Dickens both in ChathamCo, NC. and after the move by the May & Dickens to Gibson Co., TN totake up bounty land. The best evidence shows Thomas May had 11children 4 girls & 7 boys., unfortunately only 6 names have beenestablished, Green May who married Mary Cole, Thomas May who married?, James May who married ?, Stephen May who married Elizabeth Gregory,William May who married Frances Sadberry and Susannah May who marriedUriah Dickens.
