It is not sure if Samuel Pond really was the father of Miriam Munger. However, the location and her birthdate are clearly pointing in thisdirection. It is sure that Samuel Pond had a daughter Miriam. Samuel was among the signers of "New Plantation and Church Covenant"of Branford on 20 Jan 1667. From Trumbull's Connecticut ColonialRecords, we learn that: "At General Court", held at Hartford,Connecticut on 9 May 1672, Samuel Pond of Branford, was propounded fora Freeman. Residence in the country then was not considered sufficientto entitle the resident to the elective franchise. It appears theywere made such by a special act of the General Court (Legislativebody), as a favor granted, being previously propounded as a fitsubject for such favor; and before they could enjoy the electivefranchise they had, also, to take what was called the "Freeman'sOath", which latter feature was retained in some, if not in all, theEastern States for a number of years subsequent to the AmericanRevolution, requiring all citizens on arriving at the age of majorityto take the "Freeman's Oath" before they could enjoy the electivefranchise. Samuel was a Deputy to the General Court from Branford in 1678, 1682,1283, and 1687. When first elected Deputy in 1678 there were buttwenty-two towns, and forty-two Deputies, all but two electing twoDeputies each (Branford had two). In 1688, he signed the NewPlantation Covenant and Church Covenant of Connecticut. He was also aEnsign of the militia in 1689 and a Lieutenant of the militia in 1695.
