WATSON, grain dealer, located at Valley Falls, JeffersonCo., Kan., in May, 1865, after remaining there until March, 1866, hemoved to Topeka and was engaged in the grocery business in that cityuntil September, 1869. he was then appointed Indian trader, and afterremaining a short time at Fort sill, returned to Wichita and stayed atthat place until the spring of 1870. He was then at Topeka until thefall of 1872, then at Texas a short time and then located again atWichita where he remained until he came to Newton in 1875. He has beenengaged in grain dealing since locating in this place. he is a nativeof Northwood, Rockingham Co. N. H., where he was born June 21, 1844and which was his home until 1864. From 1864 until the close of thewar he was in service in the Quartermaster Department. He was marriedat Wichita, Kan., in July 1874 to Mollie E. Munger, a native ofTopeka, Kan., and has two children, Mabel and George P. Mr. Watson isa member of the A. F. & A. M. Blue Lodge, Chapter, Council andCommandery, and also of Eastern Star Chapter. Mrs. Watson is adaughter of Darius S. Munger, who located the town site of Wichita The 1880 census for Newton, Kansas mistakenly names him George Watson. The 1900 census states that Granville Watson and his wife Mary E. havebeen married for seven years. If this is correct, all the childrenthat were born before 1892 must have been from a first wife. However,it is most improbable that he married two wifes with the name Mary E.In addition, the 1900 census lists that she was the mother of a totalof six children. This points to a longer marriage than just sevenyears. Also, her parents are listed as from New York. All this indicates that the two Mary E. Watsons are identical and thatall children are from the same marriage of Granville Watson and MaryEllen Munger. The seven years in the 1900 census as the age of themarriage must be discarded as a mistake.
