Agnes (Nancy) Crawford (ca 1712 - aft. 1768) was probablyborninIrelandabout 1711. Some traditions say that she married JohnMcCreeryinDublinand that shortly thereafter they came to America alongwiththefamily ofJohn's brother, James McCreery. Another tradition saysthatJohnMcCreeryand Agnes Crawford eloped and were married on theshipthatbrought themto America in 1732. The latter tradition saysthatAgnesCrawford's nobleblooded parents never forgave her for run-ningoffwith aman of plebianblood. It is said that one of her brothers who hadnoheircame toVirginia and sent word to Agnes, asking her to come toseehim,that hewished to adopt one of her sons to be his heir. AgnesrepliedthatCapt.John McCreery was as good as any Crawford and if hewanted toseethem hemust come to their home. His answer was to returntoIrelandwithoutseeing any of them. We do not know when AgnesCrawfordMcCreerydiedexcept that she was still living in May 1768 whenherhusband,John,wrote his will.
