Conrad Nau always said his car (and Imelda said he loved cars) ran "jus like nothing."

Conrad was so proud of being born on July 4. He became a citizen of the United States.

Greetings, My name is Jennifer Wright. I saw some of your posts on the genealogy website, and think we may somehow be related. My family is descended from Conrad and Josephine Bauerbach Nau. They arrived in the USA in 1881 at New Orleans, and settled in Muscatine, Iowa, USA. I am wondering if you have some information relatedto the family. I'll tell you a little about what I know and if you have any additional information I would be delighted if you would be willing to share it with me. Conrad (also spelled Konrad) Nau was born in Bauerbach, Germany (just east of Marburg) on 4 July 1857. His parents were Anton Andreas Nau and Katharine Braun. Anton Andreas Nau and Katharine Nau wereprobably married in 1855 in either Bauerbach or Ginseldorf or Marburg. They were Catholic. Anton and Katharine had at least one other child, a son named Johann Josef Nau. I don't know any more about Conrad Nau's family than that and I'm interested if any of you have any of these people in your family tree or records, and if so, what do you know about them? Josephine Bauerbach (the wife of Conrad Nau) was born in Ginseldorf, Germany (also just east of Marburg, and about 1.8 miles north of the town of Bauerbach). Josephine was born on 24 June 1859. Her parents were Peter Bauerbach and, mysteriously, Mary NAU was her mother. My family wonders if this Mary Nau somehow connects into the family tree on the Conrad Nau side, too? Peter Bauerbach was born inGinseldorf on 17 Aug 1816 according to church records in Ginseldorf. Peter Bauerbach's parents were Joh Konrad Bauerbach born 1774 and Elizabeth Schek. Peter Bauerbach's siblings that I know of wereElizabeth Schmidt, Katherine Schmidt, Johann John (settled in Ohio) and Johann Joseph (settled in Muscatine, Iowa). On a census in 1925 in Iowa Josephine listed her mother as Mary NAU. According to aletter I have I know Josephine had two brothers. Her brother Anton Bauerbach who supposedly died about 1911. Anton Bauerbach had two daughters and four sons. I know the names of a few of his children. They were Elizabeth born 1882, Katharina who became Sister Aurea Bauerbach (she was in Fulda as a nun), born in 1884, and Aloysious born 1898 and died in 1946 in Ginseldorf. Josephine's other brother, Heinrich, was the chief magistrate, or mayor of Ginseldorf. He was born on the 29th of December 1856 in Ginseldorf and died 20 Jan 1848 in Ginseldorf. He had a number of children, and all I know about them is their names. Heinrich Bauerbach's children were: Conrad, Edward, Josef, Maria, Pius, Thekler, Theo, and Wilhem. The last boy, Wilhem had a daughter, Helga Pfeffer who lived in Ginseldorf. I would like to know more information about any of these people and their families. Do you find any of them in your family tree or do you know anything about them? Any help you could give me would bevery much appreciated. Thank you! Sincerely, Jennifer

Mail vom 21.6.2010 Das Ehepaar lebt in Ohio als Farmer Stephan, Thank you for your posting in reply to my inquiry about Conrad & Josephine NAU on genforum.genalogy.com. I apologize for the delay in replying but my husband and I farm in Idaho, USA and have been putting in long hours putting up our first cutting hay. You are correct on the spelling of the Bauerbach name. I apologize for the incorrect spelling. I really did know better. Let me tell you a bit of the story of Conrad and Josephine's courtship that has been passed down to us. It is our understanding that Josephine's father had arranged for her to marry another man whichwas unacceptable to her. Conrad may have been desiring to leave the country as he was to join the military. We have no idea if they knew each other in Germany or on board the ship to the USA. What is clear is that they married a few weeks or days after their arrival in the USA in Bridgetown, Missouri on 8 Feb 1881 in the Catholic Church there. According to the 1925 Iowa State census, Conrad's parents are Anton Nau and Katherine Braun. Josephine's parents are Peter Bauerbach and Mary Nau - all of Germany. I found it interesting that according the census, Josephine's mother's maiden name is the same as her husband's surname. According to a hand-written family tree that I received from a distant cousin, Josephine Bauerbach had two brothers: Anton and Heinrich. Only one sibling name has been linked to Conrad and that is of a brother Joe. In the possession of a cousin of mine is a post card dated 11.8.13. addressed to my great-grandfather "Konrad Nau" and is signed what looks like "Andreus Nau" Naturally it is written in German and I have no idea what the message contains or the relationship of the author. I hope this information helps you find a link between your Bauerbach and Nau relations, and hopefully may prove helpful to me in learning more about my ancestors life before coming to the USA. Thank you for your thoughtful reply to my posting and I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Cecelia Sachtjen Cambridge, Idaho
