After coming to the U.S., "he worked two years in Jackson
County and then removed to ida County, but after following the
same occupation there for three years he came to Crawford
County where he hired out for two years longer. At the end of
that time he had acquired the necessary means to buy an eighty
acre tract, where he engaged in general farming and stock
raising; this 80 acre farm has grown till at the present time
he owns 2100 acres of Iowa land."
From Dora's obit: "After spending the first two years of their
married life on the old Suckstorf farm, they moved to Ida
County where they farmed for eight years. In 1899, when the
town of Schleswig was started they moved here to make their
home."
