Sketch of Life of Richard Hillig

 

Richard C. Hillig, age 85, of Lyons Township, passed away Thursday June 25, 1964 at his home after a lingering illness.

He was theson of Richard an Anna Hillig, born March 16, 1879 at Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota

He was united in marriage to Minnie Hennen in 1906 at Madison, Minnesota. Six children wer born to this union.

They have farmed in North Germany Township for many years.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran church in North Germany Township.

He was a kind, and devotedhusband and father.

Survivors include, his widow, Minnie; two sons, Charlie of Sebeka; and Rudolph of Hamel, Minnesota; four daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Lillie) Butzin, Mrs. Arthur (Elsie) Riley, and Mrs. Oscar (Clara) Lindemann, Long Prairie, Minnesota and Clifford (Bertha) Hemphill of Sebeka; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, August of Carlton, Oregon andAdolph of Menahga, Minnesota; other distant relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held 1:30 p.m. Saturday June 27, 1964 at the Zion Lutheran Church in North Germany Township with Rev. Leroy Philaya officiating. Hymns were sung by Susan and Rita Kreklau, accompanied by Faye Schultz at the organ.

The pallbearers were Alvin Benson, Adolph Steinke, Frank Schultz, Bill Prebe, Carl Peterson and Louis Nohrenberg.

Interment was at the Green Hill Cemetery in Sebeka, Minnesota.

Relatives from a distance who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lindemann of Long Prairie, Minn.; Rudolph Hillig, Hamel, Minn.; Miss Mary Hemphill, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Maires, and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Koskiniemi all of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Butzin, Embarrass,Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Pauna, Stewart, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hillig and family, Long Prarie, Minn.; Thomas Hemphill, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Lester Hemphill, Amenia, North Dakota; Mrs.Leonard Kowitz and Lester Kowitz, both of Willow River, Minn.; Leo Kowitz of Bruno, Minn., Ella Orvick, Raymond Orvick, and Mrs. Margie Orvick, all of Pine City, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hennen andWilliam Hennen and family all of Sturgeon Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hennen of Milaca, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Hillig, Menahga; Ralph Hillig, Niagara, North Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Steinkraus,Wadena, Minn.; and Mrs. Rosella Fitz, Frank and Vernon of Waconia, Minn.
