Obituary Reno Evening Gazette, September 17, 1951, P. 3
Ranch Accident Fatal in Lassen
SUSANVILLE, Calif., Sept. 15. Raymond Wilson Mallery, 34, died last week in a local hospital after an accident on his ranch. He was plowing with a bulldozer early that evening when the accident occurred.
According to the County Coroner Olin S. Johnson, Mr. Mallery stepped on thetread of the machine and it accidentally started ahead. His feet apparently became caught between the tread and the left arm of the bulldozer before he was ableto turn it off. He kicked out the clutch bringing the machine to a stop, Johnson said.
Mr. Mallery had to be cut out with a welding torch before he could betaken to a local hospital in a semi-conscious condition. Volunteer Susanville firemen used resuscitation equipment for almost three hours in a fruitless attempt to revive him.
Mr. Mallery had been a lifelong resident of Lassen county.
Survivors include his widow, Angels; four sons, Raymond Wilson Mallery, jr., Larry F. Mallery, Gary E. Mallery, and Patrick F. Mallery; a daughter Norma Jeanne Mallery; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Mallery, and a brother, Milton Mallery, all Susanville residents.
Mr. Mallery was a member of the Johnsonville Grange, the Lassen county farm bureau and the Sacred Heart Catholic church.
Rosary was recited Wednesday evening in the White Memorial chapel, and mass celebrated Thursday morning in the Sacred Heart Catholic church, with Dean P. J. Moranofficiating. Burial was in Janesville cemetery.
