Katherine Burge Weatherly, formerlyof Appomattox, crossed over Dec. 16, 2003, at North Okaloossa Medical Center inFort Walton, Fla.
Born on May 23, 1922, in the Town of Appomattox, she was the daughter of the late business merchant, H.M. Burge and retired school teacher, Willye S. Burge of Appomattox.
Katherine was a 1942 graduate of State Teacher’s College, currently known today as Longwood University. She was the recipient of a Bachelor of Arts degree in the field of music as well as an accomplishedpianist. Katherine was an honorary member of Alpha Sigma Tau. Upon graduation Katherine furthered her education at Pan American College in the field of businessin Richmond. She was a certified member of the Children of the Confederacy, lifelong member of Memorial United Methodist Church, a past active member of the Appomattox Woman’s Club, Garden Club, and a volunteer pink lady for Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg. Katherine loved a good boat ride and was an avid bridge player and champion at Skip-bo.
She leaves behind her spouse of 52 years, Dr. Mark Weatherly; son, Robert Weatherly who resides in Fort Walton, Fla., a sonMark Weatherly Jr. of Pensacola Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Susan Book and son-in-law, Rick Book; and three adored grandsons, Ryan, Sean, and Taylor Book, all ofAppomattox.
