Family records indicate that Charles was born in 1908. The Social Security Death Index indicates a birth date of 1909. And Dot Wimsatt uses a birth date of 1910. I have elected to use the SSDI information, which is the most official documentation. Dot Wimsatt lists his names as Charles Henry Potthast; however, the Social Security Death Index lists his name as Charles J. Potthast. Family records indicate that his son was named "Charles J. Potthast Jr.," which leads me to believe "Charles J. Potthast" (i.e., Charles Joseph Potthast) is correct. Charles was a furniture finisher at Potthast Brothers in 1930. In 1982, a woman named Katherine Potthast was named Rose Queen by the Tournament of Roses. I believe that Katherine was the granddaughter of Charles and Amelia, although I am unable to determine her parentage.
