Jacob Baer, 81, a resident of Elkhart and vicinity since 1882, died at 9:15 this morning, May 3, 1938, at his home, 1206 Middlebury street, Elkhart, Ind. He had been in failing health for a year and a half, and was bedfast the last 10 days. Surviving Mr. Baer are two sons, Henry W. and Carl F. Baer of Elkhart, and two daughters, Mrs. W.C. (Emelia) Conley, at the parental home, and Mrs. William L. (Anna) Zuber, also of Elkhart. There are three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Mr. Baer, who spent many years of his life on the farm and for several years before retirement in 1930 was an employee of George C. Kistner, contractor, came to Elkhart from Koenigsbach, Baden, Germany, where he was born Aug. 3, 1856. He was the son of Jacob and Veronica Baer. His marriage to Anna Wagner of Elkhart took place Aug. 27, 1882. She died Jan. 1, 1934, and two months later, March 4, she was followed in death by a son, Herman C. Baer. Mr. Baer was a charter member of the First Methodist Protestant church. The funeral service will be held at the home at 2:30 p. m., Thursday, in charge of the Rev. F. W. Lineberry, with burial in Grace Lawn cemetery. The body may be viewed at the home after 3 p. m. Wednesday until the hour of the service.
